My colleague Craig Ball writes an excellent guide to the requirements to become an e-discovery special master. Anyone who might be interested in serving – or simply wants to understand the role of a special master – should definitely give it a look.
Jones Dykstra & Associates has created an e-Discovery dictionary which I think has the potential to be very useful to anyone unfamiliar with the territory. I’m going to keep an eye on it – maybe you should, too.
To me, whether or not you may rely on this tool to accurately estimate costs isn’t really the point. Anything that gets the ‘conversation’ started – or fills in elements you may not have considered – is a good thing.
I expect that some of you who try this calculator, after
you see some of the fields, will say, “I didn’t know that was part of
e-Discovery!”. If it accomplishes that goal alone, it’s worth a look.
